Mary DeMaio

Director of Sales North East Region, USA | IBA Molecular

Why did you join IBA?

I was a customer of IBA for 5 years and am very familiar with the dedication of the employees, the quality of the product and their excellent reputation for customer service. When I made the decision to leave my previous position in an imaging environment, I contacted IBA first. I feel fortunate that I was able to gain a position with a company I know and respect. IBA affords me the opportunity to contribute to a global company while assisting caregivers in the delivery of an important tool for patients with cancer.

Why do you enjoy working at IBA?

I am passionate about the education of both the medical and patient communities of the value of PET imaging and how it can influence patient outcomes. IBA takes this mission seriously and is continuously investing in methods to assist customers with education and marketing. I enjoy working with the IBA team. They inspire me daily with their commitment to customers and patients.

Benjamin Mertens

Field engineer | IBA Particle Therapy

I was hired by IBA in October 2007 to be expatriated as a field engineer for the nozzle calibration as part of the installation, of the Particle therapy centre in Essen, Germany

The first months with IBA were, of course, dedicated to training. On one hand I had a theoretical training and on the other hand I discovered the system on a practical point of view through a coached mission in Korea.
Weeks after weeks, I started to better understand all the parts of the system and I could start working by myself.  This part was of course very important, it allowed me to feel comfortable with a system that I would have to install later on.

After that, my missions on site (China & Korea) were dedicated to work on different issues and R&D projects; it was really exciting to manage such projects after only a few months with IBA.

The expatriation period began with the rigging of the cyclotron in Essen. In this project, I am owner of a full subsystem. It starts from the very beginning, the installation of the system until the very end, the final calibration and validation.

In IBA, the international aspect is very important. In one year, I spent two and a half months in Belgium then I went to Cyprus, the USA, Korea, China, and Germany. As a beam expert in a worldwide company, the only way to work is to go to different customers’ sites. It allowed me to discover and enjoy many cultures and countries.
The other exciting side of my job is the technological challenges that we constantly meet. We need to be aware and stay up to date with the latest technologies.
Therefore the ongoing education is also fundamental with proton therapy being very specific. We need to travel the world to attend these courses.

Working for IBA really met my expectations as a young engineer.

In IBA, we have a comfortable working environment, a lot of skilled and committed people to work with and together, we contribute to a great mission: “Protect, Enhance and Save Lives” .

I love working in IBA.
Firstly, I really can put pride in what we are working for. We are struggling with the human’s enemy - cancer. Hundreds of thousands of lives will be saved by our products. This is why our company is so successful and also why we could get so much respect from our customers.

Secondly, I am always surrounded by talented colleagues; whose wisdom inspires my thinking, whose talents accelerate my development. Just like our Business Intelligence Group, all our colleagues are passionate, creative and talented. Since I came to IBA, we have published 4 newsletters. Each time, it is different because we are trying our best to make it more valuable and more comfortable to read. Lots of amazing ideas were just caught during our discussions.

Thirdly, I really enjoyed fulfilling my curiosity by acquiring new knowledge, skills and capabilities every day. What’s more important to me is that my learning not only benefited myself, but also fueled the team to accomplish business results. I really feel the achievement by it.
