IBA has a flexible and unique approach to provide the particle beams required for your patient protocols. While protons are perhaps the best understood and most widely used particles in charged particle therapy, there is a growing interest in the use of ions for some presentations of cancer. Protons are, at present, the only charged particle beam for which many governments and private insurance carriers provide reimbursement.
It is generally believed that as oncology providers gain more experience with various ion beams and report favorable and gainful outcomes, healthcare reimbursement will gradually expand to include additional types of charged particles. IBA can build a PT facility for you today which produces medical-grade charged particle beams of only protons, a combination of protons and specific ions*, or ions only*. Or you can build with anticipated expansion in mind - start with protons now, and add ions later.
Our consulting team can meet with your PT facility committee and discuss your needs together with the flexible IBA configurations available to meet your requirements.

- Build two cyclotron vaults but install 230 MeV cyclotron only
- Start treating patients within three years with Proton Therapy, gain experience, expertise and revenue
- With revenues from Proton Therapy, add a 400 MeV/u Cyclotron later, with minor disruption to treatment
- Proton and later Carbon beam in the Fixed Beam rooms. Proton beam in the Gantry rooms only.
